Yesterday, Gawker published what they called “William Safire’s Finest Speech.” It was a speech, written for President Nixon, that thankfully, never had to be given. It was a speech to be delivered to the world if Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin could not leave the lunar surface to return to Earth.

Today, thanks to the success of the moon landing on July 20, 1969, none of us has given thought to what might have been.
These were just two of the incredibly brave men, taking untold risks, to further the boundaries of human knowledge through exploration. We need to return to space to drive innovation, technology development, and knowledge.
