747 Departing from St. Maarten

This is a very late rotation from the runway causing the plane to pass just over the heads of the onlookers.

Painting a 747

I am a huge fan of Virgin Atlantic. Recently, Virgin Atlantic decided to update the look and feel of the aircraft in the fleet. The new branding was rolled out on one of their 747s named “Mustang Sally” (G-VROC - a 747-41R). Prepping a 747 - and putting it through maintenance checks - is no small task. The time lapse video below compresses four days into less than four minutes.

These are some before and after photos of the same aircraft courtesy of Airliners.Net.

Aviation Cutaway Drawings

I am a big aviation geek. Really. I am. I am not kidding.

I could sit at the end of a runway all day long and watch planes take off and land (best place is the In-N-Out Burger on Sepulveda at the threshold of the 24R runway at LAX).

I have a collection of more than 3,500 toy airplanes (my wife is an angel) that I have amassed over the past 35 years.

I can also tell you the airline, flight number, type of airplane, seat assignment, and route of every flight I have taken since 1976 (only the ones from 1990 onward are in the database so far).

See, I told you, I am a GEEK.

Anyway, I have always enjoyed looking at airplane cutaway drawings and the folks at FlightGlobal have made their exceptional database of these available for download on their site. Above are just a few examples of some of my favorite aircraft (Concorde, 707, 747SP, 747-400, 777-200, the Douglas SST, the Super VC10, and the Airbus Beluga)

Of course, if you would like a full-sized print of these or any other aircraft, you may purchase one from FlightGlobal here.

Enjoy!

I love airplanes and I love the Boeing 747. Imagine housing my airplane collection in a house built from an old 747 that flew for Pan Am?
